The Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, The Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, has “cut the ribbon” at fully modernised Southbrough Post Office and store in his Tunbridge Wells constituency.
During a two week refit, the Post Office and store have been fully refurbished by new Postmaster Mr Sivarajah Sivathevan. Previously it was a Post Office selling cards and stationery. Now it is a Post Office and convenience store with extended opening hours.
Greg Clark MP, said: “The Post Office is a vital part of Southborough and I’m delighted that its future has been secured. Now with seven day opening and longer hours it can serve the community even more. I wish Sivarajah and his team all the best.”
The branch is now providing an extra 22 hours of service a week including Sunday morning and Saturday afternoon.
Former Postmaster, Mrs Kay Thanesan, has taken semi-retirement after 13 years in charge, although she is now working at the branch two days a week.
Mrs Thanesan, said: “The new branch and shop looks really good. It has been completely refurbished and up-dated. It is amazing what was achieved in a fortnight. There has been real attention to detail with the work and to retain the character of the premises. The much-loved clock at the front of the store remains an important feature. Customers are very happy with the longer opening hours.”
